It’s time for another runway and this one is rough from the start.  The designer’s are awoken predawn with boxes of New Balance sneakers and clothing and told to meet at the track.  All are fired up except Cecelia who won’t get out of bed.  Uh oh!  So off to the races as the designers need to run a race to compete for team captain positions.  Not another team challenge!!  Before the starting whistle blows however, Cecelia approaches Heidi and Tim and quits Project Runway.  The other contestants are horrified that she would work so hard to get there only to quit so soon, but I say if you can’t go big, go home.  So the race for captain continues-without Cecelia.  Bye!

Team captains are Josh M, Anthony Ryan, Bryce and Victor.  Teams are divided and right away you can see the tension brewing.  Josh chooses Anya for her design aesthetic and Becky for her sewing ability.  Josh and Anya get their heads together and poor Becky tries to put in a word but is shut out immediately by Josh.

Anthony Ryan chooses Laura and gets Bert as last pick.  Another team with controversy.  As with Josh’s team, Anthony Ryan and Laura team up and Bert gets shot down time and time again.  With Bert’ sharp tongue and Anthony Ryan and Laura’s close friendship this is going to be a difficult group to pull together.

Bryce chooses Kimberly and Danielle.  They all huddle together and start sketching right away, with out drama.  Same can be said for Victor and Oliver, though Oliver had a rough start in the race when he tripped and tore up his knee.  A third designer is brought back and the choice is….Josh C!  Victor and Oliver are thrilled with their group and the addition of Josh.

Heidi Klum's New Balance ShoesThe parameters of the challenge are that the clothes must be made with the same color denim and suede that Heidi uses in her New Balance sneakers, and the outfits must compliment the sneakers and be worn together on the runway. In addition, the designers are told that the winning look will be sold on Amazon.com along with the rest of her Heidi Klum New Balance collection.  ”Think fashion with a twist” says Heidi before the designers are sent off to Mood.  That’s where the drama continues to unfold.  From the get go, both Bert and Becky are given no fabric allowance and told what to work with by their captains.  This is a team challenge and you have to roll with the punches, but ouch!  These punches hurt!

In the work room the designers begin to bring their visions to life, with varying results.  It goes from inspired to hot mess and everything in between.  Heidi and Tim come in and Heidi is shocked at the lack of work done.  Could it be because the designer’s can’t stop fighting long enough to come up one solid look let alone a cohesive collection?  As Josh C calls her “the Klum of Doom” visits each group slashing looks and giving critique.  Victor is praised for his edgy urban denim/leather jacket.  It is a stunning jacket with leather sleeves and a black denim with a slight shimmer.  I want one!  Oliver however isn’t shown the love for his skirt which Heidi calls “too farmy.”  I couldn’t agree more.  It is so unflattering I can’t see how Victor lets it slide.  Bryce is told his dress is “not fashion forward, start again.” and Josh M gets slammed with “Every week one of these paneled dresses walks down the runway.  Why do you keep doing it?”  Heidi is so displeased that she gives them additional time to pull their stuff together as it were and they get to work until 4:00 am.  Yay!  Bring on the exhaustion with a side of drama!

With the extra time on their hands Josh M decides to play dictator and verbally pound Becky into the ground calling her designs “dowdy” and “Your target demo is 40 to death!”  ”If your tired, take a nap, I”ll do it my self!”  It is no wonder that Becky runs out of the workroom in tears.  Josh then turns his attentions to Bert for taking his sewing machine, well Bert gives it right back to him telling him to “drop dead.”  Josh is quick to retort ‘You’re closer to death than I am so I would watch it.”  Is this Project Runway or Real Housewives?

In the end looks are sent down the runway, some amazing like Victors and Anya’s racer back maxi dress.  That dress is so effortless, I have to have it!  Other looks are a horror show like Anthony Ryan’s jumpsuit.  OMG, is she really wearing a pajama gym outfit on the runway?  Laura’s is so so with her vest and tank and unmemorable bottoms.  Bert is the only saving grace on the team with a look that is presentable.

Judgement time and this weeks guest judge is model and designer Erin Wassen.  I do not envy the judges as this is one tough runway.  In fact there is no clear cut winning or losing team so all of the designers are kept on the runway for judgement.  The fun begins with Anthony Ryan’s group and his loose floppy jumpsuit leading the judges to question his judgement.  Michael Kor’s put it ” You achieved the impossible, camel toe in big shorts.”  A delighted Bert adds “She has camel butt too!”  Drama Drama Drama!  This group is so disconnected that they are fighting it out on the runway!    Danielle’s green chiffon (again) blouse/tank is not well received.  ”She’s chiffon addicted!” adds Michael Kors.

The designers are sent out and the debate as to winning and losing looks begins.  Heidi wants Anthony Ryan out the worst way, calling his look into question and demanding that he be “out” for it. She says the show clearly states that each designer is judged on that weeks work alone.   The other judges come to his defense and zero in on Danielle and her green chiffon tank adding that it is the same blouse week after week.

In the end Heidi calls them back and declares that since it’s her challenge she is changing the rules and awards 2 winners.  Victor and his hot motorcycle jacket and wrinkle dress and Josh M/Anya for the beautiful maxi dress win this weeks prize and will have their garments on Amazon.com.  I’ll take one of Anya’s dresses!

That’s the good news.  Now for the bad.  Anthony Ryan and Danielle are in the hot lights of the runway’s bottom spots.  Danielle was called out by Heidi “You bored us again with another poorly made chiffon blouse.”  And to Anthony Ryan she added “You completely fell apart.”  ”If it were up to me alone you would be out today.”  In the end it was Danielle who was bid “Auf Wiedersehen.”  It’s true, she did crank out the same green chiffon blouse week after week, after week!  That won’t sell, but Victor’s motorcycle jacket, dress and Josh/Anya’s maxi dress will!  See you on Amazon.com and on the Runway!
